Punjab: Former Congress Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot And Senior Journalist Arrested In Forest Department Corruption Case

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested senior Congress leader and former Punjab minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Dharamsot was arrested early today morning, along with a senior journalist Kamaljit Singh, who works with a leading Punjabi daily. Kamaljit Singh is said to be working as an aide to Dharamsot.

Dharamsot has been arrested for his involvement in a corruption case in the forest department.

Dharamsot was the Social Welfare and Forest Minister in the Cabinet of former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh. He was defeated in the recent assembly elections from Nabha (Reserved) seat in Patiala district)

The Punjab Vigilance has recently arrested Mohali Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Guramanpreet Singh and a middleman, Harminder Singh alias ‘Hummy’, in connection with the video sting operation in which the two were seen seeking bribe to facilitate sale of illegal farmhouses in the periphery of Chandigarh.

During the investigations, Guramanpreet Singh is said to have spilled the beans on the role played by the former minister.

Dharamsot faces accusation of being involved in the illegal felling of over 25,000 trees. According to vigilance department officials, evidence of his involvement in corruption in the forest and social welfare departments has also surfaced..

Former forest minister Sangat Singh Gilzian, who remained minister for three months, has also been named in the FIR.
