In Cherai village in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, a horrific incident took place on Tuesday (18 July) night, where four members of a family, including a six-month-old baby, were brutally murdered and their bodies set on fire.
The police suspect it to be a revenge killing. According to authorities, the killers used an axe to slit the throats of the victims, after which they dragged the bodies to the courtyard and set them ablaze.
Shockingly, one of the murderers is a relative of the slain family.
Villagers alerted the police when they noticed smoke emanating from the family's house that night. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered the four charred bodies in the courtyard.
The victims have been identified as Poonaram (55), his wife Bhanwari (50), their daughter-in-law Dhapu (23), and her six-month-old daughter. Poonaram's son had left for work in a stone quarry after dinner on that fateful night.
SP (Jodhpur rural) Dharmendra Singh Yadav, who visited the crime scene, stated that the motive behind the murders appears to be personal enmity, but every possible angle is being investigated.
A forensic team is currently at the crime scene, and top district authorities, including Collector Himanshu Gupta, are closely monitoring the situation. Additionally, a dog squad has been deployed to gather evidence.
In response to the tragic event, the BJP criticized the Ashok Gehlot-led government, questioning the state of law and order in the Chief Minister's home district. This incident has sparked outrage and concern among the local community and beyond.
Chairperson of the National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma informed on Twitter about taking a Suo Moto cognisance of the matter and sending a team to do the inquiry.
