Renuka Singh, a former Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs and a prominent candidate for the Chief Minister's position in Chhattisgarh, held a meeting with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda in Delhi on Thursday afternoon (7 December).
Being a tribal, Singh holds significant influence in the community and if she is chosen, she will become the first woman CM of Chhattisgarh. She secured victory in the Bharatpur Sonhat Assembly constituency with a narrow margin of 4,337 votes.
It is believed that the BJP leadership has hinted enough that it would choose new faces as CMs in all three states- Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, where it recently won elections.
The most unexpected outcome was in Chhattisgarh, where most opinion polls and exit polls were giving an edge to the Congress. However, the BJP managed to win 54 seats and secure a majority in the 90-seat assembly.
Earlier, Raman Singh served as the BJP CM for 15 years from 2003 to 2018. This time too, he is a contender for the CM post. He won from Rajnandgaon Assembly constituency.
