During the Winter Session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Tuesday (28 November), BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, was suspended for allegedly causing a disturbance in the House.
The motion for this action was put forward by ruling Trinamool Congress MLA Tapas Roy after Adhikari disrupted proceedings by raising slogans during a discussion on a resolution on Constitution Day (November 26).
Adhikari, protesting against the arrest of TMC MLAs in various scams, entered the well of the House and raised slogans. BJP MLAs also displayed posters condemning the state government, Indian Express reported.
Despite warnings from Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay, Adhikari and other BJP MLAs staged a walkout. The BJP legislature party is reportedly considering bringing a no-confidence motion against the Speaker on Wednesday in response to his decision.
Later, TMC MLAs protested in front of the Ambedkar statue on the Assembly premises, highlighting their grievances regarding the non-payment of central dues to West Bengal.
The Winter Session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly commenced on 24 November and is scheduled to continue until 7 December.
