Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai, issued a letter of support for the candidature of KS Thennarasu, who is the candidate put up by the Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) faction of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
This comes after Senthil Murugan, the candidate put up by the O Panneerselvam (OPS) faction, withdrew from the fray.
Annamalai asked all BJP karyakartas and office-bearers to work for the victory of the alliance. He said that the outcome of the bypoll would be important for future elections.
Further, he said that he is thankful to OPS for withdrawing his candidate as the AIADMK-BJP alliance would now be able to put up a united fight against the 'money and muscle power' of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has forwarded all the documents received by it from AIADMK presidium chairman A Tamil Magan Hussain to the Returning Officer of the constituency.
Thennarasu would now face EVKS Elangovan of the Congress which is contesting on behalf of the DMK-led alliance. Other candidates in the fray include S Anand of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and Menaka Navaneethan of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK).
