A police constable in Uttar Pradesh was suspended due to a social media post expressing support for Palestine, according to Circle Officer (Sadar) Sandeep Singh on Monday (16 October).
Constable Suhail Ansari's post, which sought donations for Palestine, had gone viral in the past two to three days, Singh stated. The superintendent of police took notice of the matter, conducted a probe, and subsequently, Ansari was suspended on Monday.
According to The Telegraph, Singh clarified that there is no current information indicating whether the constable is associated with any organisation, but some minor complaints have been received.
Further investigations are ongoing, and if the constable is found guilty in the future, stringent action will be taken against him, added the circle officer.
The suspension comes amid the backdrop of heightened tensions between Israel and Palestine, with terrorist group Hamas attacking southern Israel on 7 October, leading to hundreds of civilian casualties.
In retaliation, the Israel Defense Forces launched multiple attacks. The recent conflict has resulted in a significant loss of lives in Israel and the Gaza Strip, marking one of the most severe escalations in decades between the two sides.
