Pakistan has tested its Shaheen-III nuclear-capable ballistic missile, which has a range of 2,750 kilometres, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the propaganda arm of the Pakistan military, has said.

Shaheen-III, a mobile, solid-fueled platform, has the longest effective range of all of Pakistan's ballistic missile systems.

"The test flight was aimed at revalidating various design and technical parameters of the weapon system," ISPR said.

Pakistan claims that the missile's long range makes it capable of reaching the farthest point in India's northeastern states and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the eastern Indian Ocean.

The missile, which was first tested in March 2015, is not operationally deployed.

However, the other two missiles in the Shaheen series -- Shaheen-I and Shahee-II -- are in service. While Shaheen-I has a range of 900 km, Shaheen-II can carry warheads up to a range of 1500 km.
