Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Ayodhya on Sunday (25 July). Adityanath kept his Ayodhya visit focussed on the Ram Janmabhoomi and Ayodhya's preparations in the continuing fight against Covid-19.
He also inspected and reviewed development works in Ayodhya where the Dashrath Medical College and a new oxygen plant have been in news recently. These are the new additions to Ayodhya's infrastructure that have been launched under the state government and Centre partnership. He has said that the state will have the maximum number of medical colleges in the state.
UP is going to assembly polls in 2022. Adityanath's visit is an important development for his government, the BJP and himself.
Amid Adityanath's visit to Ayodhya, sections of the media speculated that he may contest the election from Ayodhya constituency.
Ved Prakash Gupta, currently the member of legislative assembly (MLA) from Ayodhya has been reported as saying that "he is ready to give up his seat for the chief minister."
“It will be a matter of pride and luck for all us people of Ayodhya if the chief minister fights the election from here. The party will decide who has to contest from where. Ayodhya is one of the chief minister’s priorities,” he has been quoted as saying.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has begun her work towards consolidating the support of the Brahmin community in the state.
Ayodhya is of importance to the BSP in this regard. Last week, Mayawati had reportedly announced that the BSP will hold 'Brahmin Sammelan' in Ayodhya ahead of the assembly polls.
The Ayodhya MLA has added that they (the MLA and his team in the BJP in Ayodhya) will all campaign for Adityanath to bring the BJP to power in the state.
