The desecration that has allegedly happened in Tirupati has shaken the Hindus across the globe.

In terms of gravity, it is no less than the thousands of desecrations that Hindu temples have faced throughout history. Many have compared the use of animal fat in the prasadam to the 1857 moment when the Brits forced Indians to use animal fat-greased cartridges. The Indians had risen up in revolt then.

But what about today?

Our latest edition of the weekend magazine titled "Tirupati Tirumala Debacle" covers the issue in detail. We list the eight questions that must be asked apart from the (very necessary and justified) outrage.

While the centre has taken cognisance of it and asked for a "detailed report". But let's be very clear, it is not just an issue of food adulteration as the Union Health Minister J P Nadda seemed to suggest.

This is a larger issue. It is about the desecration of faith, the protection of which became the state's responsibility when it took over the temple management. Also so under Article 25.

Hindus need answers. Now.
