AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal Eyes Congress Vote Share In Gujarat

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, in a video message, has urged the Congress supporters to vote for his party in the upcoming Gujarat elections.

Speaking in Gujarati, Kejriwal claims that voting for Congress would mean wasting one's vote as Congress cannot form government. He added that Congress is going to win not more than five seats.

He said that there is an AAP wave and if Congress supporters vote for AAP, then the party would surely form a government in the state and make way for "parivartan" or change.

AAP has been trying to make inroads in Gujarat, which has remained a two party state. Earlier, Kejriwal had indicated that the party is working on OTP formula i.e. OBCs, Tribals and Patels.

It had also been eyeing urban votes, which had been a stronghold of the BJP. During its election campaign, the party also tried project itself as a Hindu party to shed its image of an outfit that panders to minority vote.

However, as the poll date nears, AAP's hope to make an impact in the Gujarat election seems to be thinning.

The latest video message seems to be an attempt by the AAP to whisk away Congress vote share, a strategy that it had successfully deployed in Delhi and Punjab.

In 2017 Gujarat elections, Congress had won 77 seats, riding on the Patidar agitation. However, this time, with no such factor playing out, the party seems to be on a backfoot, providing space for AAP to stake claim.
