Amritpal Singh Likely To Surrender In Punjab After Evading Arrest For 10 Days: Report

Evading arrest for over ten days, radical Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh has returned to Punjab and is set to surrender, media reported citing police sources.

Singh is likely to present himself before Akal Takth. The head of Akal Takht is presently based in Bhatinda, CNN-News18 reported citing sources.

"It has been known that Amritpal might surrender in Bathinda or Amritsar," the report added.

Amritpal Singh was reportedly traveling to Amritsar through the villages of Hoshiarpur.

Punjab police was tipped off about Amritpal presence in the area, following which it conducted a large search operation in Hoshiarpur and nearby villages on Tuesday (28 March) night to nab the radical Khalistani preacher and his associates, who are accused in several criminal cases, NDTV reported citing sources.

However, Amritpal Singh seemingly escaped, abandoning an Innova car at a gurdwara in Maraiyan village and fleeing into the fields.

The car was later recovered by the police.

After this, checkpoints and barriers were put up on the roads to catch Amritpal and his associates, while a search operation was carried out in and around the village.

Amritpal Singh intended to give an interview to an international news agency before surrendering, but cancelled the plan on realising there was chance of escaping.

Amritpal Singh, who leads the pro-Khalistan 'Waris Punjab De' group, has been on the run since 18 March after a police crackdown on the outfit.

The crackdown on Amritpal came around three weeks after his supporters stormed the Ajnala police station near Amritsar to secure the release of an arrested man.
