The Andhra Pradesh Police Crime Investigation Department (CID) has filed a petition in court requesting 15 days of custody of former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Naidu has already been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody in relation to a multi-crore scam.

The court is expected to hear the petition, which was filed on Monday (11 September), on Wednesday (13 September).

“Most probably the day after tomorrow (Wednesday) the petition will come for hearing,” Additional Advocate General Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy was quoted as saying by PTI.

Reddy explained that they requested 15 days of custody of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief, but acknowledged that it is ultimately up to the court to decide the duration of custody.

"We can only seek police custody for some days but finally when it comes to hearing the court will decide,” he said.

On Monday (11 September), Naidu's legal team submitted a petition to secure his early release from jail and procure house custody.

The ACB Court in Vijayawada heard detailed arguments on the petition.

The judgment on the house custody petition, which is expected to be announced on Tuesday, is eagerly awaited by Naidu's legal team.

A team of legal experts led by Supreme Court lawyer Siddarth Luthra in their arguments in the court expressed concerns about Naidu's security in prison, while the CID opposed their arguments.

Earlier on Sunday (10 September), a local court in Vijayawada remanded Naidu in judicial custody for 14 days.

The former chief minister is currently imprisoned in the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison in East Godavari district.
