According to Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, China, the NewsClick website, and the Congress party are connected through an "anti-India umbilical cord."

A report alleged that Chinese firms were providing funding to the NewsClick portal.

During a press conference held at the BJP headquarters, Thakur, along with Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, accused Rahul Gandhi's fake 'Mohabbat ki Dukaan' of selling Chinese goods, a report by a news wire agency said.

He further stated that the funding network of NewsClick reveals a foreigner named Neville Roy Singham as one of the funders. Singham allegedly receives funds from China and has direct connections with the propaganda arm of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese media company Maku Group.

The involvement of "foreign hands" behind the news portal was exposed in 2021, according to Thakur's remarks.

Allegations were made that they disseminate false news under the guise of free news, with claims of support from Congress and other parties.

The issue of NewsClick allegedly receiving funding from Chinese firms, leading to the creation of an anti-India environment, was raised by BJP member Nishikant Dubey in Lok Sabha. This was in reference to a news report in the New York Times.

At the time, there was no immediate response from the news portal or Congress regarding the allegations.
