Eleven political parties led by the Congress's Assam branch met in Guwahati on Thursday to unite against the BJP and present a joint challenge in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) organised a meeting in Guwahati and called upon the Opposition to unite, keep aside their differences, and work together to overthrow BJP from power in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The meeting didn't include All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) led by Badruddin Ajmal.

Assam Congress president said: "AIUDF is the most unreliable political party. So in future, we will not forge any pact with AIUDF."

The meeting involved Senior Congress leaders and 10 other Opposition party representatives discussing strategies to defeat the BJP in upcoming Lok Sabha elections, reported the ANI.

Jitendra Singh and Bhupen Kumar Borah from the Congress attended the meeting.

The Assam Congress president disclosed that 11 political parties were present at the meeting. These included JD(U), NCP, Raijor Dal, RJD, TMC, Assam Jatiya Parishad, CPI, CPI (M), CPI (ML), and Jatiya Dal Assam apart from the Congress. Various issues were discussed, and some decisions were made during the session.

After the meeting, a coordination committee consisting of 11 political parties was established with the APCC president appointed as the head. They plan to join forces for a large-scale public rally in Guwahati once the Karnataka Assembly elections are over.

Eleven parties agreed to not ally with AIUDF, according to the state Congress president.
