In an apparent attack on DMK and Congress over Udhayanidhi Stalin's controversial 'eradicate Sanatana Dharma' remark, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday (7 September) slammed those attempting to vilify the 'Sanatan Dharma'.
Speaking at a Janmashtami event in Lucknow, the UP Chief Minister questioned the motive of those insulting the Sanatana Dharma.
"Attempts are being made to point fingers at the Sanatana culture. Attempts are being made to insult our heritage," CM Yogi said.
He added that those attempting to vilify our heritage are forgetting that even Ravana and Kans failed to eradicate 'Sanatana Dharma'.
"Jo Sanatan nahi mita tha Babar aur Aurangzeb ke atyachar se vo Sanatan in satta parjeevi se kya mit payega' (If even the atrocities committed by Babur and Aurangzeb failed to eradicate the Sanatana, how will these insignificant political parasite eradicate it?)" he said.
"They should be ashamed of their deeds..," he added.
CM Yogi's statement comes amid the controversy over DMK leader and Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin's remark.
Stalin had on Saturday during an event in Tamil Nadu compared the Sanatana Dharma with diseases like dengue and malaria.
“(A) few things cannot be opposed; they should be abolished. We can’t oppose dengue, mosquitoes, malaria or corona, we have to eradicate them. In the same way, we have to eradicate Sanatana (Sanatan Dharma), rather than opposing it," Udhayanidhi had said, Indian Express reported.
His comments sparked row from political parties, with BJP insisting on the Congress to condemn his remarks.
However, Congress leader and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge tacitly came out in support of DMK leader's remark saying "any religion that does not promote equality or does not ensure you have the dignity of being human is not religion, according to me".
Without naming Udhayanidhi, CM Yogi said that Sanatana Dharma is the religion of humanity and casting aspersions on it is a disgusting attempt to jeopardising the humanity.
The UP Chief Minister also emphasised the inclusive and humanitarian nature of Sanatan Dharma, saying that it has historically extended support to people of all faiths in their times of need.

"We (Sanatan Dharma followers) have never said that we are special. We always believed in 'Ekam Sat Vipra Bahudha Vadanti' (Truth is one, wise men call it by different names)," he said.
"Still, if such people can't understand and keep spitting on the sun, it will fall back on them and their upcoming generations will be ashamed," CM Yogi added.
