The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday (6 March) visited the residence of former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi in Patna in connection with the land for jobs scam case.

Rabri Devi, the wife of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Yadav, is one of the 14 accused in the case, along with her husband and 14 others.

CBI has reportedly said that this was not a raid and the exercise was carried out simply to record her statement.

Rabri’s sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav were present at the residence while the investigation was underway.

Earlier, the CBI had filed a chargesheet against the former chief ministers Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi, and their daughter Misa Bharti, and 13 others on 7 October last year.

The scam occurred when Lalu Yadav was the railway minister between 2004 and 2009 under the UPA-I regime. Along with the GM Central Railways Soumya Raghavan and CPO Railways Kamal Deep Mainrai, he handed out jobs to persons in lieu of sale of land to his family members.

The FIR says that the enquiry has prima facie indicated that Lalu Yadav as minister of railways, a public servant, abused his official position to obtain advantages in the name of his family members in the matter of appointment of substitutes in Group D posts in different zones of the railways.

On 27 February this year, Delhi High Court summoned Lalu Yadav and 15 others in connection with the case. Previously, CBI had also arrested Bhola Yadav, the former official on special duty and an aide to the then railways minister Lalu Yadav.
