The India tour of Canada-based Punjabi singer and rapper Shubh, also known as Shubhneet Singh, has been cancelled after controversy over his social media post showing India's distorted map and support for Khalistan.
Ticketing platform BookMyShow said on X (formerly Twitter), "Singer Shubhneet Singh’s Still Rollin Tour for India stands cancelled. To that end, BookMyShow has initiated a complete refund of the ticket amount for all consumers who had purchased tickets for the show".
"The refund will be reflected within 7-10 working days in the customer’s source account of the original transaction," the platform said.
Shubh was scheduled to perform in Mumbai from 23 to 25 September as part of the Cruise Control 4.0 event. He had also planned a three-month-long tour in India and was slated to perform in several cities including New Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad during this period, reports News18.
Earlier in the day, the ticket-booking app faced a boycott call on social media for hosting a singer who is allegedly a Khalistani sympathiser.
A #UninstallBookMyShow was trending on X.
This comes after wearable brand boAt withdrew its sponsorship for Shubh's India tour.
In a statement on X (previously known as Twitter), boAt expressed its commitment to the music community but emphasised their status as a true Indian brand.
“At boAt, while our commitment to the incredible music community runs deep, we are first & foremost a true Indian brand. Therefore, when we became aware of the remarks made by artist Shubh earlier this year, we chose to withdraw our sponsorship from the tour," the company said.
This followed a diplomatic row between India and Canada that saw each expelling a senior diplomat.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged India's involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, in British Columbia in June this year.
India dismissed Canada's assertion as "absurd and motivated" and expelled a senior Canadian diplomat.
