The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel, shared a video showing a young boy verbally attacking him, and accused the Bajrang Dal of being behind the incident.
Hours after saying the Chhattisgarh government may ban the Bajrang Dal if necessary, Baghel shared the video on his Twitter account on Wednesday (3 May).
"This child, who refrains from taking the name of Lord Ram, is cursing me. He is a member of the Bajrang Dal. Look at what these people have turned our children into in the name of religion," the Chief Minister's tweet carrying the video said.
“I wish this child a bright future. May God make all children knowledgeable and strong like Hanuman Ji,” Baghel said further in his tweet.
The Congress manifesto for the upcoming Karnataka election pledged to ban groups such as the Bajrang Dal and the Popular Front of India for their alleged role in 'spreading hate'.
The Sangh Parivar has strongly protested this move.
Baghel responded to a question on potentially banning the Bajrangis in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh by stating that while the outfit did cause some disturbances, they were ultimately controlled.
He also added that the government would consider a ban if necessary.
