The Congress on Thursday (6 April) accused the Adani Group of having business links with a Chinese company, claiming it may pose a threat to the national security.

In a tweet, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh alleged that Adani group has business links with a Chinese firm and citizens in all its infrastructure projects in roads, railways, ports and airport sectors.

Congress alleged that the name of the 'Chinese' firm with which Adani group was linked is PMC projects and its owner is Chang Chien-Ting.

Chien-Ting is known as Morris Chang and is son of Chinese citizen Chang Chung Ling, the Congress alleged.

The party added that Chung-Ling has been directors in Adani firms and a business partner of Gautam Adani's brother Vinod Adani.

Congress leader and former party president Rahul Gandhi also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue.

"PMC Projects - ‘Pradhan Mantri Chinese’ Projects? Why are India’s critical ports, airstrips, railway tracks and electricity lines being built & controlled by a Chinese company?" Rahul tweeted on Thursday (6 April).

Rahul Gandhi had shared a screenshot of a story in ‘Adani Watch’ website in the tweet. The headline of the story read “EXCLUSIVE: Firm linked to Adani’s infrastructure projects owned by Chinese national”.

The image on the article shows Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani with two other persons.

However, BJP hit back at Rahul Gandhi, saying that the person, who Rahul Gandhi claimed to be a Chinese, is from Taiwan.

"Person RG claimed to be a Chinese is a Taiwanese," BJP IT department head Amit Malviya tweeted in response to Rahul's tweet.

"He [Rahul Gandhi] perhaps doesn’t know the difference between The People’s Republic of China & The Republic of China (Taiwan) , unless he thinks Taiwan is part of China, which is endorsing Chinese claim. But ignoramus Rahul wants to be PM," Malviya added.

Further, Sana Hashmi, fellow at the policy think tank 'Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation (TAEF)' also slammed Congress for spreading fake news about citizenship of Chien-Ting.

"Fake news! He's a Taiwanese citizen & works closely with the Adani group! Do you see what's written on the podium? It's the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Taiwan! I was at that event- It was an event to facilitate a US$ 70,000 COVID relief donation to India!," Hashmi tweeted.

"Also, @INCIndia do you know the official name of Taiwan is the Republic of China, and China is actually called the People's Republic of China?" she added.
