Congress Gears Up For Crucial CWC Meeting On Oct 9: Discussing Political Strategy And Caste Census To Be On The Top Agenda

The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the top decision-making body of Congress, will convene on October 9 to discuss the current political situation, caste census, and solidify their strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in five states.

The party aims to retain power in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, while also seeking to win over the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, BRS in Telangana, and the Mizo National Front (MNF) in Mizoram.

During the meeting, there is expected to be a discussion on the caste census.

The Congress has strongly advocated for the caste census and has emphasised the demand for granting rights based on population, particularly for the other backward classes (OBCs).

The timing of the CWC meeting is significant as some opposition leaders are currently facing scrutiny from central agencies.

The recent arrest of AAP leader Sanjay Singh in the Delhi excise policy case raises the question of whether the Congress leadership will extend support to him and others who are being targeted by the government.

This CWC meeting follows the first meeting of the reconstituted Congress Working Committee (CWC) held in Hyderabad on September 16, which aimed to develop a strategy for the assembly elections in five states and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In addition to the members of the CWC, the chief ministers of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh will also be attending the meeting.

Recently, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reconstituted the CWC, ensuring a mix of experienced members and young leaders in the 84-member body.

This upcoming meeting in the national capital will be the first one since the reconstitution.

The CWC comprises of 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees, and 13 special invitees, including 15 women and several new faces.
