The Congress on Sunday (24 November) sought discussions on allegations of bribery against the Adani Group levelled by by US prosecutors, and the situation in Manipur during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.

In an all-party meeting ahead of the start of the Winter Session, the Congress also sought talks on pollution and train accidents, party leader Pramod Tiwari told news agency PTI.

Ahead of the Winter Session, the Centre convened a meeting with floor leaders of political parties to facilitate the smooth functioning of Parliament.

This comes after the BJP’s sweeping win in Maharashtra and the INDI Alliance bloc’s strong performance in Jharkhand.

The US indictment against Gautam Adani, accusing him of offering Rs 2,029 crore in bribes to Indian officials, ignited a political uproar last week.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, demanded Adani’s arrest, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “protecting him”.

The BJP countered, accusing the Congress of attempting to destabilise the Indian market and harm the nation’s economy.

The BJP also claimed that the states mentioned in the US indictment were Opposition-ruled during the time.

Addressing a press conference, Gandhi had made it clear that he would bring up the allegations against Adani in Parliament, signaling a stormy Winter Session.

Set to commence on Monday (25 November), the Winter Session of Parliament will continue till 20 December.

The government has proposed 16 bills for consideration, including the Waqf Amendment Bill, during the session.
