Senior Congress leader Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union minister P Chidambaram, has received a show cause notice from the party regarding his alleged remarks on Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as reported by NDTV.
In an interview with Thanthi TV, Karti Chidambaram reportedly stated that PM Modi is "more popular than Rahul Gandhi" and expressed confidence in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), an issue the Congress has been actively opposing.
The Congress disciplinary committee, through a notice issued by former MLA K R Ramasamy, has asked for Karti Chidambaram's response within 10 days.
While sources close to Karti Chidambaram argue that only the All India Congress Committee has the authority to issue a notice to a Member of Parliament, the Tamil Nadu Congress has taken this unusual step, sparking speculation about potential motives.
The report also suggests that the showcause notice might be strategically aimed at preventing Karti Chidambaram's potential elevation as the Tamil Nadu Congress Chief.
