Padampur

After the victory in Odisha's earlier by-poll at Dhamnagar, BJP is pumped up. Its candidate is Pradip Purohit who was elected as an MLA from here in 2014 but lost to BJD's Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha in 2019.

The by-poll was necessitated following the death of Bariha in October this year. Now BJD's candidate is late MLA's daughter Barsha Singh Bariha.

The constituency witnessed a record 81.29 per cent voter turnout. This makes the contest interesting along with the fact that another BJP win will make it a stronger rival to the ruling BJD.

Sardarshahar

Rajasthan's this seat is having by-polls due to the death of sitting Congress MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma in October this year. He was elected as an MLA from here six times since 1985. Now his son Anil Kumar contested the by-poll on a Congress ticket.

BJP's candidate is Ashok Kumar who won from here in 2008. This was the single term of a BJP MLA in the past three decades. Thus, Sardarshahar can be called a Congress bastion.

However, the latest infighting in the Congress might have damaged the party's prospects here, making the contest interesting. The constituency registered a voter turnout of 72.09 per cent.

Bhanupratappur

By-polls were necessitated at this seat of Chhattisgarh due to the death of sitting Congress MLA Manoj Mandavi. Mandavi was a two-time MLA from here. Now his wife Savitri Mandavi contested on the Congress ticket.

BJP's candidate is Brahmanand Netam who defeated Manoj Mandavi in 2008 elections to become an MLA. He is also the vice-president of BJP's state Adivasi Morcha.

Bhanupratappur is a reserved seat for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community. It witnessed a voter turnout of 71.74 per cent. This election is being seen as an indicator for the assembly elections due next year.
