Film actor Siddharth Suryanarayanan, commonly known as Siddharth alleged that the security personnel at the Madurai airport kept talking to him and his parents in Hindi in spite of their repeated requests to them to speak in English.
He added that the security personnel behaved rudely and said 'in India this is how it is.' They then asked his parents to empty out all coins in their bags.
Expressing his unhappiness about the incident in an Instagram story, he called the security personnel 'jobless people showing off power.'
Madurai Lok Sabha MP Su Venkatesan, who belongs to the Communist Party of India (Marxist)- CPI(M), said that he had requested the Madurai airport authorities to investigate the allegations.
People on Twitter were however quick to point out that Siddharth probably knew Hindi as he had done a part of his schooling and his graduation in Delhi. Some users wrote that it could be an attention seeking gimmick.
They also said that it was wrong on the part of Siddharth to call the airport security personnel as jobless as they belong to the central armed police forces .
Further, they pointed out that the actor had wrongly mentioned the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) instead of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). It is the CISF that usually guards public places like airports and metro stations.
