Opposing Manish Sisodia's bail plea, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has urged the Supreme Court to dismiss it.
The CBI told the apex court that Sisodia was the kingpin and architect of the conspiracy connected with the liquor policy irregularities case, news agency ANI reported.
The CBI informed the Supreme Court that Manish Sisodia's influence and clout disentitled him to any parity.
The agency stated that Manish Sisodia is fully aware of the line of further investigation, which includes the larger conspiracy and the involvement of excise officials from Punjab.
The CBI has expressed concerns that if Manish Sisodia is released on bail, there is a high likelihood that he will tamper with evidence and influence witnesses.
The agency specifically mentioned his past conduct, highlighting that he destroyed his mobile phone on the day the Ministry of Home Affairs referred the present matter to the CBI.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has filed a bail plea in the Supreme Court regarding the CBI and ED cases related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy.
He has challenged the rejection of his bail plea by the Delhi High Court.
Recently, the Delhi High Court denied bail to Manish Sisodia in both cases. In its order on 3 July 2023, the Delhi HC expressed concern about the accused's high political positions and his role in the ruling party in Delhi.
The HC said the possibility of him influencing witnesses cannot be ruled out, leading to the denial of bail in the ED case.
In February 2023, Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of Delhi's new excise policy.
The policy was withdrawn amid allegations of foul play by the Opposition. Sisodia is currently in judicial custody.
According to the CBI, Manish Sisodia played a crucial role in the criminal conspiracy and was deeply involved in formulating and implementing the policy to further the objectives of the conspiracy.
