The Lok Sabha Housing Committee has issued an eviction notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, giving him one month to vacate his government bungalow at 12, Tughlaq Lane. He has been residing at the bungalow since 2014.

This move comes shortly after Rahul's disqualification from Parliament due to his conviction in a defamation case over his alleged “how come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?” remark by a Surat court.

Rahul Gandhi is also facing criticism for what he said in his first press conference after the disqualification.

“My name is not Savarkar, it is Gandhi and a Gandhi never offers an apology”, said Gandhi in response to a question on whether he will apologise for his “Modi surname” remark.

Shiv Sena, a political ally of the Congress party, criticized Rahul Gandhi for his remarks about Veer Savarkar.
