Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, has revealed the reason behind the formation of the 26-party alliance, I.N.D.I.A., by major Opposition parties.
In an interview with ANI, Chowdhury said that "Modi-Shah juggernaut" cannot be stopped alone.
"The entire Opposition felt that the Modi-Shah juggernaut which has wreaked havoc in the country, cannot be stopped alone. Therefore, it was important that everyone came together," Chowdhury said.
"You would have seen in a sea, small fishes come together and take the shape of big fish to save themselves. This way, the big fish feels that even smaller fishes have strength," he added.
"So, even NDA will feel that this new alliance I.N.D.I.A is capable of taking them on. This is a 'majboori' (compulsion), of course. Politics is all about 'majboori'. Compulsion falls under the rule of politics," Chowdhury said, reports Times Now.
Earlier last month, 26 Opposition parties met in Bengaluru and announced that their coalition will be called 'I.N.D.I.A' (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance).
Following the announcement of the Opposition alliance's name, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly criticised the Opposition front, stating that alliances based on negativity have never been successful.
He also said that a dynastic and corrupt alliance would be detrimental to the country.
To counter the I.N.D.I.A name, the Prime Minister spoke of "Bharat" and said the NDA represents the poor and the backward classes.
