NewsClick is currently under investigation for alleged money laundering and foreign funding violations, which has brought attention to Neville Roy Singham's close ties to the Chinese government media machine.

American millionaire Neville Roy Singham has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in connection to the NewsClick case's money laundering probe.

The summons, reportedly sent via the Ministry of External Affairs, are related to allegations of receiving funds from China-linked entities for broadcasting Chinese propaganda in India.

The ED's probe initiated based on a complaint by Delhi Police has led to raids and arrests, including that of NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha.

The case implicates Singham, named by The New York Times in the global spread of such material, who denies the charges. Singham is also believed to have close links with the Chinese Communist Party.

The investigation involves alleged FDI law violations and the infusion of foreign funds from Singham in a circuitous manner to criticise domestic policies and development projects.

Despite raids since 2021, NewsClick emphasises that no money laundering complaint has been filed yet.
