After a social media outrage over a controversy at ABES Engineering College in Ghaziabad, two faculty members have been suspended for allegedly instructing a student to vacate the stage during a cultural festival for chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans, reported News18.
ABES Engineering College Director Sanjay Kumar Singh in a video statement stated, "A video came to my notice yesterday after which a probe committee was formed. The committee was asked to submit a report soon. Within 24 hours, the report was submitted, and based on that, two faculty members have been suspended with immediate effect for their inappropriate behavior."
The controversy at ABES College began when a video surfaced on social media where a professor at the institution asked a student to leave the stage for chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans during a cultural festival.
In response to the incident, Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh, the Director of ABES Engineering College, issued a video statement stating "A video has come to my cognizance where some students and faculty members were seen having a disagreement on a topic. An inquiry committee has been formed, and action will be taken once the matter is probed. As far as the students are concerned, college authorities will not take any action against them."
The videos of the incident quickly went viral, sparking widespread outrage on social media. Subsequently, a heavy police presence was deployed at the college, with authorities stating they were investigating the matter and would take suitable action.
In response to the controversy, several Hindu groups demanded action against college authorities, while some BJP leaders voiced their concerns.
Additionally, a video surfaced on social media featuring women professor Dr Mamata Gautam, one of the suspended professors.
In the video, she denied objecting to the 'Jai Shri Ram' slogan and asserted that the student was removed from the stage due to an argument. Dr Gautam emphasised her 'Sanatani' roots and said that she is being targeted by an online mob.
