The Monsoon session of the Parliament is set to begin today (20 July), with the government aiming to pass 31 legislative items during the session.

Meanwhile, the Opposition will likely raise issues like Manipur violence, railway safety, unemployment, inflation, India-China border status, and trade balance.

On the first day of the session, ten opposition MPs have already moves an adjournment motion over Manipur.

The Opposition has also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a statement in Parliament on Manipur, which has been witnessing ethnic violence since 3 May.

Earlier on Wednesday (19 July), the customary all-party meeting, attended by 34 parties and 44 leaders, was conducted.

The all-party meeting was aimed at ensuring a smooth session that will continue until 11 August, with 17 sittings.

One of the important legislative items that the government will focus on during this session is the ordinance over control of Delhi bureaucrats.

The government has a comfortable majority in the Lok Sabha to pass the ordinance but in the Rajya Sabha, it may need the help of parties like BJD and YSRCP to pass the bill.
