Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Thursday (6 July) said that any candidate who aspires to become the Prime Minister should not be without a wife.

Speaking to reporters, Lalu said that the Opposition is likely to win 300 seats in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

When asked about the Opposition's prime ministerial candidate and whether Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, whom Lalu had earlier advised to get married, will be the PM face, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav said, "Whoever becomes the PM should not be without a wife. Staying at PM residence without a wife is wrong. This should be done away with..," he said.

Earlier last month, while addressing a joint press conference after the Opposition meet in Patna, Lalu said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi “should have gotten married before”.

“Rahul Gandhi didn’t follow my suggestion earlier. He should have married before. But still it’s not too late,” said Lalu Prasad Yadav, reports Indian Express.

In response to Yadav’s quip, Gandhi said, “It will happen since you have said.”
