On 7 July 2024, speaking in Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi made perhaps the most significant statement in his political career, revealing his ideological agenda:
The movement which L K Advani ji started, that movement at whose centre was Ayodhya, has been defeated in Ayodhya.... I am saying a very significant thing... Congress party and INDIA bloc defeated them in Ayodhya.
Rarely are words spoken with such clarity in Indian politics.
Ayodhya movement was started long before Advani’s rath yatra. It started immediately after the demolition of the temple in medieval era and the construction of the three-domed structure over it.
Since then, Hindus of almost all denominations have consistently fought for the recovery of the site, and rebuilding of the temple. Advani’s rath yatra was only one of the many milestones in the movement that spanned almost 500 years. Right from its inception, the Ayodhya movement has faced numerous hurdles, each looking humanly insurmountable.
And then there was the massacre of unarmed karsevaks.
It was in October-November of 1990. No Hindu of that generation has forgotten the massacre. It was enacted by the administration of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the father of a present valued ally of Rahul Gandhi.
So, when Rahul Gandhi speaks of his alliance with Akhilesh Yadav and defeating the Ayodhya movement of Advani, he taunts the supreme sacrifices of karsevaks.
Every family of karsevaks who made the supreme sacrifice for Shri Ram Mandir at Ayodhya should now stand & voice their anger and angst at Rahul Gandhi's statement.
The reconstruction of the Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya is a victory of the sacrifices made by Dharmic communities through historical struggles. It honours every organiser of the Ram Shila Nyas movement, every historian who uncovered the truth amidst Nehruvian distortions, and the dedicated work of archaeologists like B B Lal, S P Gupta, and K K Muhammad.
It also acknowledges the contributions of historian Sitaram Goel and his scholars, including Dr Koenraad Elst. Their sacrifices, sufferings, and selflessness are enshrined in every brick of Ayodhya's Ram temple.
It is the victory of that great legal genius K Parasaran. It is the victory of the men from Gujarat in New Delhi who chose not the path of ordinance and political glory but the long arduous path of legal means and judgement because of their commitment to the Constitution and their strong belief in the triumph of truth.
The political setback for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Ayodhya in 2024 is by no means a defeat. But it does reveal a lot about the agenda of the person who sees in a Lok Sabha constituency victory the defeat of the largest people's movement India has seen.
Personally, I feel the political setback in Ayodhya for the BJP is a karmic retribution for awarding a Padma to Mulayam Singh Yadav and a timely warning that the people of Ayodhya have been alienated because of the grand show of temple ceremonies.
It is time to course correct to follow more visibly and aggressively the inclusive development that Prime Minister Narendra Modi considers as his mantra (sabka saath sabka vikas) which is also the essence of Hindutva (loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu).
The statement of Rahul Gandhi has indeed come at a good time for the Hindu electorate. It is time they understand that Congress and its alliance for what it is.
It is Sanatan Hindu Dharma that is holding this nation together, celebrating and managing it with all its diversity. Its destruction and defeat would balkanise India or make India into a weak nation of ethnic, linguistic and religious disputes.
The Ayodhya movement is not an event in history that started with Somnath rath yatra and ended with the inauguration of Shri Ram temple. The Ayodhya movement is an eternal process and is now part and parcel of the Hindu collective being. It is a sacred power house in the heart of Bharat.
Those who try to disrupt and destroy it, belittle and insult it, should remember that this civilisational yajna is protected by Shri Ram and Lakshman themselves.
Jai Shri Ram!
