  • The accused, Sherkhan Choudhary, has been booked for murder of Naina Kaur, and is absconding. Naina’s wedding was scheduled for 22 June.
  • Less than a week before she was scheduled to marry someone else, a woman was brutally stabbed to her death by her ‘stalker’ on Wednesday evening (17 June).

The key accused, 21-year-old Sherkhan Choudhary, is an influential social media user with over 4 lakh followers on Tik Tok.

The victim, Naina Kaur, was around 20, and lived in Vivek Vihar colony in Tulsi Niketan area of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district.

The crime happened in Tila Mor market of Ghaziabad — some four kilometres from her house.

Naina’s wedding was reportedly scheduled for 22 June in Nagpur.

Sherkhan lives in nearby Sunder Nagri colony.

As per the statement of Naina’s father, Baldev Singh, to The Times of India, around 8 pm on Wednesday, he, along with his wife and Naina, was returning home from the market after buying a SIM card.

The women stopped at a food cart while he proceeded to go home. Just then, three men arrived on a bike.

One of them, who was wearing a mask, pulled Naina’s hands and beat her up, and also slapped her mother so she fell unconscious.

He then stabbed Naina with a knife several times on her neck and abdomen, says the Times report.

A press statement issued by the Ghaziabad police the next day said that the police have arrested two of Sherkhan’s accomplices — Asif, 22, a resident of Sahibabad and Aamir Chaudhary, 20, a resident of Sunder Nagri — while the search for Sherkhan is on (he is named as Sheru in the police statement).

The police have announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for Sherkhan.

The Tila Mor police have booked all three under IPC section 302 (FIR number 212/2020).

A senior officer at Tila Mor station told Swarajya that Sherkhan ‘seems addicted’ to Tik Tok and other social media apps and the police are hoping that any update on his accounts can lead the police to his location.

Sherkhan left the phone at his home before committing the crime, he said.

Prima facie, it appears to be a case of one-sided love affair. It seems like they both knew each other, but the girl’s family was opposed to their relationship as the man is from a different religion. She was scheduled to marry someone else,” he said.

    The accused’s Tik Tok profile

Sherkhan Choudhary, with over 4 lakh followers on Tik Tok (@sherkhanchoudhary02), also has over 60,000 followers on Facebook and is fairly popular on Instagram too.

His last Tik Tik video shows a hand searching for the right key on a keyboard to place a ring till it settles on the letter ‘N’.

The video before this shows Sherkhan wishing ‘Eid Mubarak’.

Several videos show him as a fan of actor Sanjay Dutt.

In several videos, he is seen glorifying violence and ‘badmaashi’.

Several other videos also show him as a deeply religious person.

In a Tik Tok video posted on 23 April, Sherkhan is seen telling a friend that he has decided to reserve the month of Ramzan only for ‘ibaadat’.

In another video, he discovers that wearing the Islamic cap increases one’s reputation in the society.

Some videos also feature his mother, who is also reportedly absconding since the crime.
