India's Largest Tiger Reserve To Come Up In Madhya Pradesh's Damoh District

A Forest Department official has revealed a notable advancement: Damoh district in Madhya Pradesh is on track to host the largest tiger reserve in the country.

The proposal to merge the Noradehi Sanctuary with the Rani Durgavati Sanctuary in Damoh district has been approved via a notification from the central government. This merger will create an expansive tiger reserve that covers an area of 2,300 square kilometres.

The reserve, which will be located in and around the Jabera area of Damoh district, is anticipated to stimulate tourism and development in the region, according to officials, as reported by news agency ANI.

M S Uikey, the Forest Divisional Officer of Damoh, has said the forthcoming tiger reserve is set to offer a secure sanctuary for the existing 16 tigers in the region. The consolidation is also anticipated to draw more tigers to the area, thereby amplifying its significance in terms of conservation.

Uikey conveyed his positive outlook regarding the influence of the tiger reserve on Damoh's growth, saying, "This is a big gift for Damoh. Damoh's name will be famous throughout the entire country. Damoh district of Bundelkhand is included in the backward areas, but due to this tiger reserve, the possibilities of development will increase."

He added: "The tiger reserve will attract tourists from across India and abroad, boosting the local economy."

The Forest Department is in the process of setting up the tiger reserve. The reserve is expected to be established within two to three months.
