Dawood Shaikh, accused of fatally stabbing a 20-year-old woman in Navi Mumbai last week has been apprehended by the police in an allegedly 'Love Jihad' case.
Shaikh, who was acquainted with the victim, Yashashree Shinde, was arrested in Karnataka's Gulbarga district today (30 July) as per a report by NDTV.
Shinde had been reported missing before her body was discovered in the bushes near a railway station in Navi Mumbai's Uran on Saturday.
According to the same report, her body bore multiple injuries and stab wounds, indicating a brutal murder. A post-mortem report has also confirmed that she had been stabbed.
A senior police officer stated, "Our initial investigation suggests that the woman and the man were in communication. She was murdered when she went to meet him."
The police stated that Shinde's family had filed a case under the POCSO Act against Shaikh in 2019.
Previously, a man identified as Mohsin from Karnataka was taken into custody by the Navi Mumbai police. Phone call records indicated that he had been in constant contact with Shinde. Authorities are investigating his connection to the main accused.
