Multiple Cows With Grievous Wounds Found in Haryana Village After Lok Sabha Results, Activists Demand Deeper Probe

In Ismailpur village located in Haryana's Faridabad district, a gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves in the area. On the night of 5 June, just a day after the Lok Sabha election results were declared, a series of cows were found brutally slashed with a sharp object.

The horrific scene was uncovered by Archana Upadhyay, an animal activist. Upadhyay was alerted by locals about an injured cow. To her shock, she found multiple cows similarly attacked. The injuries were severe, with deep, sharp slashes exposing bones.

According to the complaint filed by Upadhyay at the Palla police station, at least 16 cows were found with grievous wounds. Her complaint calls for the attackers to be charged under laws against cruelty to animals and the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, 2015.

The perpetrators remain unidentified, but the severity of the attacks has prompted demands for a thorough investigation. 

Ravi Dubey, founder of Aastha Animal Hospital where the injured cattle are being treated, shared his shock and anger over the incident. “The injuries are horrifying,” he said. “These poor animals were subjected to unimaginable cruelty.”

According to Dubey, the injuries seem to have been caused by a butcher’s knife.

He called for a deep investigation, questioning whether the attacks were linked to the election results. “What is the purpose behind slashing the cows with such cruelty? Was this done to disturb the peace, especially in light of the recent elections? The police must investigate it properly,” he told Swarajya.

The elections saw Krishan Pal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning the Faridabad parliamentary constituency with a margin of over 1.7 lakh votes against Mahender Pratap Singh of the Congress party. This victory follows his 2019 win, where he secured a much larger margin of over five lakh votes.

In a significant shift, the Congress party won five of the ten seats in Haryana, with the BJP securing the remaining five. This is in stark contrast to the 2019 elections, where the BJP won all ten seats.

The station house officer (SHO) of Palla police station, speaking to Swarajya, stated that the investigation is ongoing and no conclusions can be drawn yet. “We are looking into all possible angles,” the SHO said. “It's too early to say anything definitive.”

"As the investigation continues, residents and animal rights activists across the region are waiting anxiously for justice," Dubey said.
