Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc In Himachal And Uttarakhand

Heavy rains over the last 24 hours have wreaked havoc in the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

At least 21 people were killed in Himachal in separate incidents amid heavy rainfall on Monday.

A temple in Shimla’s Summer Hill area collapsed following a landslide, triggered by rains, killing at least nine people.

With the rescue operations underway, a least 20-25 people are feared to be trapped under debris, according to the state Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

In Himachal's Solan, at least seven people were killed and three others reported missing in a cloudburst in the Jadon village. Two houses and one cowshed were also washed away.

Further, many houses were damaged in in Mandi, Sirmaur, Shimla, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Solan.

Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, a cloudburst in Chamoli district's Pipalkoti has led to severe damage, ToI reported.

This comes as several districts of Uttarakhand have been receiving heavy rainfall leading to flooding and waterlogging.

Severe waterlogging has also been reported in Dehradun as rainfall continues to lash parts of the city.

In Mal Devta area of the Uttarakhand's capital city, the building of Dehradun Defence College also collapsed on Monday (14 August) morning.

According to reports, due to incessant rainfall, the soil underneath the building eroded, causing the entire structure to collapse like a house of cards.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Tamta, the director of Dehradun Defense College, said that before the school building collapsed, all the students had been safely evacuated to a secure location in the morning, reports WeUttarakhand.
