Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Rajya Sabha MP MM Abdulla's remarks in the Parliament regarding Kashmir on a day when the Supreme Court gave its judgement on the abrogation of Article 370 drew strong criticism from Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Quoting Dravidian ideologue EV Ramasamy, Abdulla said, "Every race has the right to self determination, that applies to the people of Kashmir as well."
Interrupting his speech, Dhankar asked if the House could subscribe to such statements and if someone could believe in the Constitution by saying such things.
Further, he stated that the remarks would be expunged and that Abdulla had gone too far.
When Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha defended Abdulla's remarks by saying that Abdulla was only quoting Ramasamy and one may or may not agree with it, Dhankar said that Abdulla was quoting it affirmatively, drawing oxygen from it, he was taking sustenance from it and that this couldn't be permitted in the House.
