Addressing a meeting of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's (DMK) district secretaries, constituency observers and ministers on Sunday (1 October), Chief Minister MK Stalin said that action would be taken against district secretaries if they failed to ensure the win of the candidate put up by the DMK-led alliance in their area.
A district secretary who attended the meeting said “Perform or perish. It was the message we got from the Chief Minister. He made it clear that he would not hesitate to change the district secretaries even if they are seniors,” reported The Hindu.
He also said that he wouldn't hesitate to replace the district secretary, even if he is a senior leader of the party.
Explaining the reason for his tough stance, he said that it was because the I.N.D.I.A bloc was set to come to power at the centre and the DMK would play a prominent role in it.
He asked them to ensure a clean sweep for the DMK-led alliance, i.e., win all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and the single seat in Puducherry.
In 2019, the party won all seats in the state except Theni, which was won by P Ravindhranath, the son of former chief minister O Pannerselvam (OPS). OPS and his son were expelled from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in July 2022.
Chief Minister Stalin's 'perform or perish' message to his district secretaries comes days after the AIADMK left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
