The Supreme Court reserved its judgment on Senthil Balaji's bail petition after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) argued that the conditions applied in Manish Sisodia's case would not apply here.

Balaji has been under arrest since June 2023 for his alleged role in the 'cash for jobs' scam during his tenure as the state's transport minister.

A Supreme Court bench had released Sisodia on bail, stating there was little chance that the trial against him would start soon.

This judgement was referred to by Balaji's counsel.

The ED opposed the bail, arguing that Balaji's brother Ashok was still absconding and that Balaji was very powerful and could influence witnesses if released.

Senior Advocate Guru Krishnakumar, representing one of the scam victims, stated that the trial delay was due to the state government not granting the sanction to prosecute him.

The bench was also informed about the discovery of large cash deposits in bank accounts belonging to him and his wife.
