A Supreme Court Bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi today (30 October) deferred the hearing of minister Senthil Balaji's bail plea to 6 November as both parties requested an adjournment.
According to a report by LiveLaw, the bench initially decided to defer the hearing by four weeks after hearing the adjournment request by Balaji's lawyer and the Solicitor General but later it agreed to hear the matter on 6 November after one of the junior lawyers representing Balaji said that it was a bail plea filed on medical grounds.
Justice Trivedi then stated that the counsel for Balaji should have been present if it was an urgent matter.
Balaji had moved the Supreme Court after Justice G Jayachandran of the Madras High Court on 19 October dismissed his plea stating that his medical condition was not such that it could be treated only if he was released on bail.
Justice Jayachandran also cited the following reasons-
Balaji continues to remain a minister in the state government
the attack on Income Tax officials when they conducted searches
his brother Ashok Kumar continues to abscond
