The Chennai police registered over 500 cases against people who burst firecrackers beyond the specified time from 11 November to 13 November.

The Tamil Nadu government had specified the timings, i.e., 6 AM to 7 AM and 7 PM to 8 PM.

According to a report by India Today, of the 581 cases registered in connection with firecrackers, 554 were for bursting crackers beyond the specified time, 8 were for firecracker shops violating government rules and 19 were for bursting crackers with noise beyond permitted levels.

The Greater Chennai Police had formed special units consisting of a sub-inspector and two constables in 102 police stations, to monitor the bursting of firecrackers across the city.
