Tamil Nadu: Sessions Court Extends Senthil Balaji's Judicial Custody Till 22 November

The Principal Sessions Court in Chennai today (6 November) extended minister Senthil Balaji's judicial custody till 22 November.

The court also issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) asking it to reply to Balaji's plea for a copy of the documents seized by it during the raids.

Balaji was produced before the judge via video-conference from Puzhal prison.

He had recently filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking bail on medical grounds. The hearing was adjourned to 6 November.

Earlier, Justice G Jayachandran of the Madras High Court had dismissed his bail plea stating that his medical condition was not such that he could be treated only if he was released.

Balaji's continuation as a minister in the state cabinet, his brother Ashok Kumar continuing to abscond and the attack on Income Tax officials who had come to conduct searches were the other reasons mentioned by the judge to deny bail.
