Uttar Pradesh ATS Arrests 74 Rohingyas, Many Of Them Worked In Slaughter Houses, Lived Near Mosques

The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh Police apprehended 74 Rohingya Muslims on Sunday night and Monday morning (23-24 July) who had allegedly entered India illegally from Myanmar and Bangladesh. These individuals were found in various districts of the western parts of the state.

The operation spanned across six districts, with the highest number of arrests taking place in Mathura (31), followed by Aligarh (17), Hapur (16), Ghaziabad (4), Meerut (4), and Saharanpur (2).

Among those arrested, 55 were men, 14 were women, and five were minors in the operation by Lucknow, Saharanpur and Deoband ATS.

This crackdown aligns with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's strong emphasis on closely monitoring individuals residing in the state without valid documentation, as stated by the government in a press release.

Dainik Bhaskar reported that ATS got the input that most of the Rohingyas work in slaughter houses as it is easy for them to hide there. Some of them also work as rag pickers.

Of the two men arrested in Saharanpur, one lived near Halwaiyan mosque and the other near Sakoori mosque. Both were living in a rented house alone for 10 years, without their family.

Both had bought plots and were preparing to build a house. They were planning to bring their families here after building a house.
