The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Monday (9 October) that the Israeli Air Force was carrying out "one of the largest air strikes ever against Hamas in Gaza."
The purpose? "...to degrade and destroy their (Hamas') ability to terrorize the people of Israel."
This was after Hamas brutally massacred over 700 Israelis on Saturday (7 October).
"Hamas launched a war. We will restore security to our country," the IDF said.
The military wing informed the public over the social media platform X that over 1,200 targets were hit by Israeli aircraft across the Gaza Strip between Saturday and Monday morning.
The targets included weapons storage and manufacturing sites, command and control centres, and rocket launchers, among others.
However, on Monday alone, the Israeli Air Force doubled that number of 1,200 targets.
Stating that Hamas "intentionally positions itself deep among Gaza's population," the IDF described the outfit as a "terrorist organization with blatant disregard for human life anywhere."
"And it is this Hamas that we are, and will continue to attack until security is restored," the IDF wrote in conclusion of its X thread.
Meanwhile, the IDF is also neutralising terrorist infiltrators who are crossing over from Lebanon into Israel. Israeli soldiers are deployed in the area and their helicopters are striking there.
The IDF Homefront Command has instructed Israeli civilians in towns near the Lebanese border to remain in their homes.
