The official statistics of China's domestically transmitted cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) hit a new high this Sunday. According to the Chinese National Health Commission website, from 0 to 24 on December 3, China reported 4,213 new confirmed cases nationwide, including 4,168 domestically transmitted cases, and 27,611 new asymptomatic cases.

Additionally, the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported that as of 3 p.m. on Sunday, Beijing had seen an additional 1,695 locally transmitted cases. Among them, Chaoyang District, which has seen a cluster of cases, reported 632 new cases. After multiple malls in the district announced that they would resume operations on Saturday, the Beijing News reported that customers entering the malls would still need to present a negative nucleic acid test result from within the past 48 hours, undergo a temperature check, and wear a face mask, and that restaurants would not be allowed to offer dine-in services.

Some netizens revealed that after Beijing recently relaxed control measures and revoked some nucleic acid testing stations, office buildings, malls, and parks that still required a nucleic acid test result made it inconvenient for residents to undergo testing when going to work. Some people even entered other residential communities to undergo testing and had conflicts with the staff. In response, some neighborhood committees have issued notices requesting that nucleic acid testing stations be reopened in residential communities.

The official Beijing Daily cited sources from the Beijing Municipal Health Commission and reported that in order to facilitate testing for the public, the authorities plan to regularly publish a list of "approved" third-party nucleic acid testing organizations.

China is likely to enter a "coexistence" mode with the virus, with local outbreaks and control measures becoming a regular part of life, according to the governor of Sichuan province, Wang Ning. The southwestern province, which has reported no new cases in the past week, may serve as a "pilot" for this new approach, he added.

Guangdong and other areas have withdrawn temporary control measures, and Twitter users have revealed that schools and businesses in Shifang, Sichuan may serve as "pilot test sites".

This easing up of the restrictions will be happy news for people who have lived in provinces which have been under some form of lockdown since the pandemic began.

Lockdown and social isolation can have a range of psychological effects on individuals, including feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety, and stress. These feelings can be particularly acute for those who are already vulnerable, such as older adults or those with pre-existing mental health conditions.

The loss of social connections and daily routines can also lead to a sense of isolation and disconnection from others, which can exacerbate mental health issues.
