Police in Canadian capital of Ottawa are deliberating on calling the military to end the protests against vaccine mandates. Officials in the government believe that there is a possibility of tens of thousands more protestors heading to Ottawa which will result in the protests morphing into an 'occupation'.
The protests began in January when a new law was implemented which mandated vaccination for truckers crossing the US-Canada border. Supporters of the protest believe that the government overstepped its bounds.
The protest by truckers against this law has grown into a wider protest against Covid restrictions. Several prominent personalities have voiced their support for these protests including former US President Donald Trump, Fox's Tucker Carlson, podcaster Joe Rogan and Elon Musk, who tweeted last week: "Canadian Truckers Rule".
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has indicated that the Covid restrictions won't be lifted. He also added that the country was "shocked and frankly disgusted". A spokesperson of the protests said that they won't budge until the restrictions are lifted.
Few days earlier the protests, popularly known as the Freedom Convoy, lost one of their primary financial lifeline: the crowdfunding platform GoFundMe. The Freedom Convoy had raised $10 million through this platform. GoFundMe stated that they removed the Freedom Convoy from their platform due to police reports.
