Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, intensified his criticism of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday, accusing it of orchestrating “secret” attacks on the Constitution.
Speaking at the “Samvidhan Sanman Sammelan” in Nagpur, Gandhi claimed that the RSS lacks the courage to openly assault the Constitution, opting instead for covert actions against what is not just a book but “mantra of life” given to the nation by Dr B R Ambedkar.
“The RSS and Bharatiya Janata Party are constantly striking at this Constitution… The RSS is doing it secretly, as they know if they do it directly, then the game is over,” Gandhi stated.
He further highlighted that the “Samvidhan” embodies the vision of luminaries like Lord Gautam Buddha, Emperor Ashoka, Mahatma Basaveshwara, Chhatrapati Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Savitribai Phule, and Mahatma Gandhi.
According to Gandhi, these historic figures championed ideas rooted in respect for all castes, religions, people, and regions.
Rahul Gandhi claimed that a small group is imposing “injustice” on 90 per cent of the population, adding, "our fight is against this” injustice, “for which a Caste-Census is necessary to ensure justice for all.
He continued his critique by claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is losing sleep over the Congress’s demand for a Caste Census.
“Whenever I raise it, he accuses me of dividing the country. The RSS is also confused about what stance to take. No matter the opposition, a Caste Census to lift the 50 per cent cap on reservations is inevitable,” he said.
